Terms of service

Last updated: 2026-06-12

These terms govern your use of International Driving Permit Checker (https://idp.bordertriptools.com), a free informational tool operated by José Manuel Volante González (see the Legal notice for full provider identity).

What this site is

The site answers one question: whether the country you plan to drive in expects an International Driving Permit alongside your domestic license, which road-traffic convention applies (Geneva 1949 or Vienna 1968), and where a US-licensed driver can lawfully obtain an IDP. There are no accounts, no subscriptions and nothing to buy on this site.

Informational use only

Results are indicative, compiled from official treaty registries and government sources on a versioned dataset. They are not legal, immigration or insurance advice. Treaty accession status, national enforcement practice and rental-company policy change without notice. Always confirm with the destination country's embassy or consulate, and with your rental company, before traveling.

Our content

Original text, design and code of this site belong to the operator unless otherwise attributed. You may quote short excerpts with attribution and a link. Treaty texts and government publications referenced here remain in the public domain or under their issuers' terms.

Third-party links

We link to third-party resources (UN treaty registries, the U.S. State Department, AAA) for reference only. We do not control and are not responsible for their availability or content. None of these links are paid placements.

Liability

The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. The operator is not liable for decisions made on the basis of an indicative result, including denied rentals, fines or border refusals.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the date above reflects the latest revision. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance. These terms are governed by Spanish law; consumers retain any mandatory protections of their place of residence.
